Battery Challenges & Solutions

Outdoor smart locks require reliable power across extreme temperatures, long standby periods and high-current unlocking. UltraXel provides wide-temperature cells and custom battery packs to meet these demands.

Key Battery Challenges

Cold-Weather Unlocking

Cold temperatures reduce available capacity and increase voltage drop when the lock motor starts.

→

Prolonged Heat Exposure

Sunlight and hot outdoor enclosures accelerate battery degradation and reduce usable capacity.

→

Peak Current Demand

Motor activation, positioning and wireless transmission create short current peaks that can cause voltage drops or protection shutdowns.

→

Long Standby & Limited Solar Charging

Continuous standby consumption and periods of limited sunlight can deplete the battery before maintenance or recharging.

→

Limited Installation Space

Compact lock housings restrict battery dimensions, capacity and connector placement.

→

FAQ

Smart locks may use alkaline batteries, Ni-MH batteries or rechargeable lithium battery packs, depending on their design. Outdoor and industrial locks require battery selection based on voltage, operating temperature, standby consumption and unlocking current.
Selected UltraXel battery solutions are designed for a service life of 5+ years under specified operating conditions. Actual service life depends on temperature exposure, charging patterns, depth of discharge and usage frequency.
Yes, when the lock supports the battery’s chemistry, voltage range and charging requirements. NCM and LiFePO₄ cells require different charging settings and should be matched to the device’s power system.
Choose cells with documented low-temperature discharge and high-temperature aging performance. Selected UltraXel cells support discharge from −40°C to +85°C. Final pack selection should also consider voltage under load, protection settings and separate charging temperature limits.
A replacement design may be possible, but voltage compatibility, charging control, protection and battery-level indication must be reviewed. Similar dimensions or nominal voltage alone do not make a lithium pack a direct replacement.
Yes. UltraXel provides cell selection and custom battery packs matched to your lock’s voltage, runtime, peak current, operating temperature and installation space. Customization includes pack configuration, protection circuits, temperature sensing, wiring and connectors.
Smart lock battery packs may require overcharge, over-discharge, overcurrent, short-circuit, and temperature protection, depending on their configuration. Applicable UN38.3 transport documentation and product safety certification requirements should be confirmed for the selected cells, battery pack design, and target market. UltraXel supports project-specific battery protection design and validation.
